I have done many different jobs before becoming a counselor.
I was a nurse for almost 30 years. I trained in England qualifying as an State Registered Nurse, a State Certified Midwife, an Orthopedic Nurse and an In-flight Nurse Escort. I worked in the areas of Neurosurgery, Intensive Care and later I did twelve years of International ‘medivac’ work, escorting ill and incapacitated people around the globe on air ambulances, in air taxis, in helicopters and on commercial flights.
Next I went into the entertainment industry for about 12 years and worked as an actress and singer doing theatre, TV, cabaret, musicals and music hall as well as voice overs (radio commercials).
During this time I also did an MA in Screen Writing & Screen Research and a Leadership training program in which I learned and practiced the art of facilitating experiential learning workshops.
Shortly after this I immigrated to Australia where I now live in Alice Springs. When I first came I explored the country by working in many different places and doing many different jobs including shop work, hotel work and laundry work. Since settling in Alice long term I have completed my qualifications for counseling. My practice includes individual and group counseling; mediation, experiential learning/personal growth workshops and other courses and classes for things like relaxation techniques and voice work. I am able to develop new workshops tailored to specific groups if I am asked to. I am also part of a network of people who facilitate workshops for the Alternatives to Violence Program which works in 58 different countries around the world, including Australia.
I have had many opportunities to travel and work all over the world. I have lived in Lebanon and India and worked for a short period in Iran. I have also visited many different countries for pleasure as well as for working purposes during my medivacing period. Each offered very different experiences.
I am lucky to have such a rich and varied history because it all adds to my ability to work with, and empathize with, people from different cultures and all walks of life.
